Pets age faster than humans so we have a shorter amount of time to identify and treat their illnesses. We recommend healthy young pets receive annual wellness visits. During these visits, we will discuss your pet’s health, ask about concerns you may have, and recommend testing as needed to identify any problem areas. If you notice any changes in your pet between wellness visits such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, weight gain/loss, excessive thirst or voiding, or a change in a behavior, please bring him/her in sooner rather than later.

During your pet’s annual wellness exam we will:

  • Perform a complete body (nose to tail) physical exam, highlighting any “problem” areas
  • Discuss his/her diet
  • Dogs: complete a heartworm & tick-borne disease blood test and an intestinal parasite fecal test
  • Cats: deworm if they have any exposure to parasites during hunting
  • Recommend additional testing as needed based on exam and testing results; examples may include comprehensive blood work, urinalysis, or X-rays.
  • Tailor a vaccination protocol to your individual pet’s lifestyle

Senior pet exams

As both pets and humans age, we all have an increased risk of illness. Health changes during our geriatric years can be more rapid with more serious long-term consequences. The earlier we detect signs of a problem, the more effective our treatment and rehabilitation options will be. Consequently we recommend that geriatric pets receive a wellness exam every 6 months and complete lab work (complete blood cell count, internal organ function, thyroid testing, and an urinalysis) at least once yearly. If a problem is identified, we will tailor our treatment recommendations to your pet to provide the longest and happiest life possible.
